Online Marketing for Local Business- What the heck is that?
As I work with and and help more and more people with their online marketing for their local business I seem to hear a question more often than not. Local Online Marketing…hmmm, what exactly is that?
When you put anything online it is available to the whole Internet, all the search engines and beyond. Now just because you put it out there available to all, doesn’t mean that it will be found by all. You could still be buried on page 44 or even 144. That’s where I come in to help you with your online marketing with a local business focus.
Imagine that you are in Alamosa, Colorado…(that’s where I grew up). And now imagine that you sell Welcome to Alamosa, Colorado t-shirts. You can put your website up, tell the whole world about your cool t-shirts, however, there’s a really good chance that most of the world couldn’t care less about your t-shirts with ALAMOSA all over them, much less do they or will they ever want to buy them.
So focusing your marketing campaign to win over the top position on page one of google for cool t-shirts, is really a waste of time. If you were selling really cool t-shirts that would be wearable or be in fashion anywhere on the planer, then you can go after the really cool t-shirt keyword. In this case… what a waste…. waste of time, waste of money, waste of resources and you aren’t’ even talking to your target market.
So what I would do with local marketing in this case would be to focus on your buying group- your target market- for these shirts… people who are in Alamosa, or people who are visiting Alamosa as a tourist who might like a cool shirt to remember their trip.
What that might look like… Alamosa Colorado shirts… Alamosa Colorado t-shirts, souvenir t-shirts from Colorado, Souvenir shirts Alamosa Colorado.
Now I am going after a targeted group that might actually be a buying group for this product. Someone in Hong Kong may like the novelty of my Alamosa shirt, however, those buyers would be few and far between.
And hopefully before you even launch a product for sale, you looked at whether or not there is a market for that product.
Then I come in and get you ranked on the first page of google for the most likely local keyword where buyers are searching for your product as opposed to putting my energy into a world wide appealing keyword for a local product.
Just remember, you can take over a local niche for your targeted keyword a whole lot faster than you can dominate for a world wide keyword. So for local business, go for local…. national and worldwide businesses…go for world wide dominance…with my help I hope…

So where the heck is Alamosa, Colorado anyway? Glad you asked…
